Russ Hamilton is a professional poker player whose live seat winnings total over $1,500,000. Like many of his fellow poker professionals Russ Hamilton is a college drop out. Prior to dropping out he was studying a degree in electrical engineering, but a meeting with one of his professors led him to make a decision to drop out and play poker full time as he would be able to earn more than he would if he carried on to complete his university studies.
Starting his poker career as rounder playing underground games in Detroit, where he enjoyed moderate success. He later moved to Las Vegas at 36 and joined a tournament black jack team. Here Hamilton found his niche and managed to rack up some reasonable winnings until tournaments introduced new rules and regulations banning black jack pro's. In order to keep his professional gaming career alive he turned his energies back to poker and shortly after racked up some big wins to his name.
The most prominent placing was winning the 1994 World Series of Poker Main Event. To date it is the only bracelet and title he holds despite having a number of money finishes on his record. He has also made one world poker tour final table and two money finishes.
In recent years Hamilton has become an expert on the gaming industry often acting as a consultant to online poker room Ultimate Bet. One of the individuals responsible for growing the card room and recruiting many of the sites big name professionals such as Phil Hellmuth in an ongoing effort to promote the online poker room.
In addition to his poker career he has notched several other world championships of various casino games on his belt and is also recognised as the founder of the Ultimate Black Jack tour which began in 2005.
