Career Highlights:
Hellmuth started playing poker at a young age and by the time he turned 25 he had already won pokers most coveted title - the WSOP Main Event, becoming the youngest player ever to take out the Main Event title. In 2006 he won his 10th WSOP bracelet, this time in the $1, 000 No Limit Holdem event, which equalled him with fellow legends Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan.
In 2007 he returned to the WSOP and picked up his record breaking 11th bracelet in the $1,500 No Limit Holdem event. In addition to the amazing record he holds the record for most WSOP cashes with 68 and the most WSOP final tables at 41. All his World Series Of Poker bracelets are in Texas Holdem events.
He has currently ranked 6th on the all time WSOP money list and has taken over 5.8 million in winnings from the tournament over the years.
He is recognised as one of the worlds best in Texas Holdem and claims to have "revolutionised the way Texas Holdem is played. Hellmuth is also renowned for his brat like personality, often getting into arguments with other players. He has several well known dummy spits in professional poker including one of NBC's Poker After Dark, where he threatened to never play the tournament again. He once accused fellow player Jiim Pittman of not being able to even spell poker in another tirade after Pittman laid a bad beat on Hellmuths favourable AK.
Like many of his fellow pros Hellmuth is a university dropout, having attended Wisconsin-Madison University for three years before taking up poker full time. Hellmuth has expanded out from just playing poker and has made several instructional videos on poker and has become a writer for several poker magazines and has also contributed to a handful of poker books including Play Poker like the Pro's, Poker Brat, and The Greatest Poker Hands Ever Played.
Despite his smashing success at the World Series Of Poker, Phil Hellmuth still has no won a World Poker Tour title although he has had 3 final table placings and cashed a total of 10 times. At current he has over 800, 000 in winnings from the WPT.
Hellmuths other notable performances include being the season 3 champion of Late Night Poker and winning the first annual National Heads Up Poker Championship. He defeated a horde of fellow pros including Men Ngyuen, Huck Seed, Lyle Berman on his way to the final showdown against Chris Jesus Ferguson. He ended up besting Ferguson in two out of three games, despite catching a bad beat to lose one. He has also been a regular on NBC's Poker After Dark and played in two seasons of High Stakes Poker.
