Career Highlights:Two EPT Cashes & Winning the 2008 WSOP Main Event
Peter Eastgate is a young poker pro from Odense in Denmark. Aged at only 22 he now holds the record for the youngest poker player in history to win the World Series of Poker Main Event.
While his rise to 15 minutes of fame has been quick, it was a while in the making. Though he will always be best known for his victory in the 2008 Main Event at the World Series of Poker, Eastgate has a number of other cashes under his belt.
In 2007 Eastgate placed 9th in the Paddy Power Irish Open No Limit Holdem Event, to pocket a cool $46,714 in change. Furthermore he has picked up air time and notoriety in the British TV series Poker Million where he played in the heats in 06 and again in 07 where he finished second and third respectively.
Earlier this year Eastgate also managed a placing in the Scandinavian Open leg of the EPT. Though he only came in at 32nd for the tournament he still picked up over $15,000 in cash for his efforts.
Primarily an online player where he plays high limit cash games around the $200/$400 limits, Eastgate's blossoming skill has been recognised in his home country where he has been named as one of the top 5 online players.
In 2008 Eastgate found himself part of the final table of the Main Event of the WSOP. The change in structure of the event - the delay of the final table for several months until November, brought extra exposure, media coverage and fame. Thrust into the spotlight, he managed to embrace it and perform with a convincing effort at the final table where he came through to demolish Ivan Demidov in heads up play to take out the first place prize of over $9,000,000. Helped by his handful of minor cashes, the win puts him in 5th place overall for the most cash won in live tournaments ever.
Eastgate, a college dropout who was studying economics has been compared to countryman and fellow pro Gus Hansen. Though his response has always been modest and humble, earning the young pro a bundle of respect to go with his mountain of cash.
