Career Highlights:

Doyle Brunson aka Texas Dolly is probably the most recognisable and iconic poker pro in the world. He has played professionally for over 50 years. Born in Texas in 1933, he was the first player to win two World Series Main Events, the first to earn $1 million in poker tournaments and is the first to have won both the World Series Main Event and a World Poker Tour title.

As of 2007 Doyle Brunson had 10 World Series of poker bracelets to his name as well as 31 money finishes in the same tournament. As a youth Brunson was a promising athlete in both running and basketball, however an injury picked up while working a summer job that broke his leg in two places and left him in a cast for over two years saw an end to that. He soon turned his attention to education picking up a masters degree in administrative education along the way. His poker days started before his injury but escalated with his forced inactivity.

After graduating from university he picked up a job as a salesman but on his first day of work played a seven card stud game and earnt well over a month's salary in several hours. He soon left the position for a professional poker career.

Brunson's poker career started out with illegal games around Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. He soon met fellow pros Amarillo Slim and Sailor Roberts. Playing in illegal games Brunson ran into trouble several times having a gun pulled on him and being beaten and robbed. After all most of the illegal games were put on by organized crime syndicates so it might have been expected. As poker was not a real legitimate career path back then there was no legal recourse open to Brunson.

Like all pros, Brunson finally settled in Vegas and is currently a regular at the big games the city has to offer. Aside from his poker accomplishments, Super System, Brunson's book on poker is considered to be the bible of poker. So much so that Doyle has claimed the book ahs lost him quite a bit of money. First released in 1978 the book has been at the forefront of the poker literary world for over 40 years. Since the original release of Super System, Brunson's has continued his literary career publishing several other books including According to Doyle in 2007 and Poker Wisdom of a Champion in 2003.
