The Player Details Box

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 21st, 2008

Hi, Hello all. So far you all seem to be enjoying the new software client quite alot, judging by the feedback we have received. Though some of you are having a few small issues with some of the new features such as the player details box. Not to worry, as I’m going to show you exactly how to get the most out of this feature.

The player details box has several functions. It allows you to keep track of friends and tags, view further details about a game, manage games you are playing and which games you are awaiting to join.

Friends and Tags – The player details box allows you to keep track of both your friends and tags. Friends are obviously those fellow players who are your friends. They must accept your offer of friendship in order for you to see them when they are online. Once this is done, you can view which games they are playing and join to play against them. Tags on the other hand are players who you have tagged for a specific reason. Perhaps because they are an easy player and you know you can win money off them, or alternatively they may be very good and you wish to avoid playing in a table with them. The difference between friends is that you can not see them when they are online. If you come across them in game, they will show up as a tagged player but you are not able to track them like you are friends. In addition, they will not know you have tagged them. Furthermore, you are also able to tag your friends. By clicking on the edit contacts button you are able to edit both your friends and tags, as well as access more detailed options regarding your contacts.

Tagging players is done in game, and all you have to do is simple click their player box. Which brings up the below screen. Viola! Done!

Version 4.4

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 4th, 2008

So as the world of poker is a little dull right now (really there is not much happening that’s worth knowing), I’m going to give you a little sneak peak at the upcoming software client – Version 4.4. Version 4.4 is the result of our designers being threatened with Chuck Norris unless they churned out the best poker gaming experience possible. Thankfully for them, they have delivered a product that would make old mate Chuck proud to fly kick them to the heads. So what masterful client have they created to be so deserving of the grace of Mr Norris’s boot imprint?

Version 4.4

  • Timebank – ever been pressed for time in a tournament when all your chips arte on the line? This feature allows you precious time, when you need it most. Under the gun of those hard decisions.
  • Euchre – A really cool side game, the first where you play with other players against other players, rather than the house. (image above)
  • Betting buttons – there are a whole bunch of new betting button options, to help you with your betting strategies.

All in all the new software client is undoubtedly one of the best out there (yes, I’ve played most of them), the above mentioned features are just a few of the new things that the software includes. It will be released in a few weeks, and will herald a whole world of new poker action at CarbonPoker.

This morning here at Carbon Poker, the whole team loaded up the new client software to begin
extensive testing and debugging. Version 4.4 that will be finished off and released in a number of weeks will improve on Carbon’s already top of the line software. So what new and exciting goodies and gaming features can you expect with the new client?
Well first off, the whole client will be going through a bit of an overhaul, it will have the same look you know and trust, but will also include updates to many features and some that are completely new. To give you a bit of an appetizer for the upcoming release some new features that you will see are…

  • A time bank feature that allows you some precious extra seconds when those critical decisions are pushed upon you.
  • New game – Euchre, the first casino game where you play alongside and against other live players.

Thats really all I have to tell you for now about the new release, but keep your eyes this way as I will be dropping more details about the upcoming release closer to the date. This promises to be a very exciting time for Carbon Poker and our players. Cant wait to see you at the tables…

New Features at Carbon Poker

Posted By : CarbonPoker July 27th, 2008

So I have two new features to introduce to you today, the first – the Carbon Poker Video page. After reading this, go click on the Community menu tab of the Carbon Poker website and then on the Poker Videos tab. Viola! The Carbon Poker Video page! This page features loads of short poker videos of live tournaments and so on. There are some awesome bad beats, some incredible hands, and my favorite – some amazing Daniel Negreanu reads. The cool thing about this video page is you can submit your own videos. If you come across a cool poker video on youtube, submit it via the submit tab and help us build our collection.

The second feature is once again located under the Community tab of the website, and is a Poker Pros profile section. This features brief bios on some of the biggest professional poker players in the world. It includes quotes and other cool trivia as well. The bios are only brief at the moment; however they will be getting updated shortly with a load of stuff on each player. Enjoy.

Version 4.3 recap

Posted By : CarbonPoker April 10th, 2008

It’s been a few weeks since our biggest update so far was released, and version 4.3 has been a huge success so far. I’ve had a browse over how far some of our features have progressed, and it’s pretty impressive to say the least.

The bad beat Jackpot has more than tripled since it began, and the standard law of physics implies that the higher the jackpot, the more players sit down to win big! From there, it will keep growing and growing, until someone walks away with (hopefully) tens, maybe even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Trust me when I say you’ll want to be there when the jackpot goes off, because everyone at the table receives a tasty piece.

The Bounty tournaments have been attracting lots of action, particularly because of our current Bounty Graveyard event. The chance to win cash for eliminating players is pretty darn tempting, and today I honor both Rafael19 and huntingfool38, who steamrollered the field in the first week. So far through the second week, both Shyzza and stuck333 have easily proven their skills, consistently placing first and second.

Deal it Twice is new … very new. I’ve only previously seen this technique employed on High Stakes Poker, and for this reason some players may be a bit apprehensive to give it a shot. However, I noticed we have at least three full Deal it Twice tables running, so that sure showed me. Our highest limit players all comment that it really is a feature employed by the best professional players, so it’s definitely a concept to read up on if you haven’t already!

New features for version 4.3!

Posted By : CarbonPoker March 30th, 2008

Well, we’ve had a few days to gauge the success of our new 4.3 software release, and run a few new tournaments and tables to get the action going. If the reaction thus far has been anything to go by, we are certainly going to have some fun with the new features!

All available in the latest update, we now offer:

Bad Beat Jackpot: on specially labeled ring games, 50c from each pot will contribute to a Bad Beat Jackpot worth thousands of dollars! This is a jackpot to award players who suffer to very worst of the bad beats. If you are holding Quads 7s or better and get beaten by Quads 8s or better (including straight flushes), then the jackpot will explode, and every active player at the table will win a portion of the prize.

The big loser receives the biggest chunk of the prize, but everyone at the table will be paid. Winners will potentially receive thousands of dollars when the jackpot goes off, so make sure you are ready, willing and able to play at our Bad Beat tables!

The overall moral of the story? When at these tables, don’t fold Quads – and really, really hope they don’t hold up!

Bounty tournaments: It’s always a great feeling to eliminate another player in a tournament, particularly if said player has been riding heavily on the smilies and chat when they win! It’s all part of the fun, and with our bounty tournaments, you’ll win money for every elimination!

You’ll pay a buy-in (which contributes to a standard prize pool), and also a bounty fee for the price of your tournament life. So, every time you eliminate a player, you will win their bounty. So, you can profit from eliminating players and also placing in the money for the prize pool! Our bounties are fully customized, so check out your poker software for different structures in out MTTs and Sit n’ Goes.

Shootout Tournaments: These are played as a series of single-table tournaments, with the top players from each table advancing to the next round. For example, ten tables of ten with the top three players advancing, and those players then form three tables. Again the top three advance for the final table of nine!

Shootouts have a flatter payout structure and different goals – beat your table for starters, and don’t try to overcome the entire field.

Deal it Twice: In certain ring games, the option to deal both turn and river cards twice will be available in two player, all-in circumstances. Dealing those cards twice is a way to simply reduce variance, and have the opportunity to hit more outs.

For example, two players can go all-in after the flop – one player with a made hand, and the other with a draw. The players must both agree to deal it twice, with each deal worth half of the pot. The player with the made hand wants to take less risk of being drawn out on (assuming the opponent has a draw), and the drawing player wants more chances to hit.

This technique is becoming very popular, and you can see it employed in many live high stakes cash games. As an industry pioneer, CarbonPoker is the very first room to offer Deal it Twice in online poker!
