WSOP Final Chip Count 3:30am EST

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 8th, 2009

It’s getting late and I’m sure if you’re reading this, you’ve been following the action. Let’s grab a red bull and see what’s going on at the final table.

The bookmakers can sleep easily as Phil Ivey is out of the World Series of Poker final table. Ivey was knocked out in 7th place by full time logger Darvin Moon called on the big blind with A-Q to Ivey’s A-K. Much to the chagrin of the cheering crowd, Moon hit a Queen on the flop and sent Ivey packing.

Here is the current chip count with the final six players:

Eric Buchman – 55,500,000
Antoine Saout – 53,075,000
Darvin Moon – 39,325,000
Jeff Shulman – 17,275,000
Steven Begleiter – 16,150,000
Joseph Cada – 13,450,000

Moon has fallen off the lead, but continues to play reasonably well. Eric Buchman

BlogsWithBalls Charity Poker Shootout Sponsored by Carbon Poker

Posted By : Comb Over-Under October 9th, 2009

BwB Poker ShootoutAs I told you earlier, I’ll be heading out to Vegas next week for Blogs With Balls 2.0.

I’m excited to network with other bloggers, hit the ESPN party and listen to the panelists… but, as far as I’m concerned, the crown jewel of the week will be the Blogs With Balls Charity Poker Shootout.

We’re a sponsor of the event and couldn’t be happier. The tourney was put together by Dan Levy at OnTheDLPodcast (one of the best podcasts online, imo) and is raising cash for Ante Up for Africa.

Also — since this event is in Vegas, there is a 50% chance that I’ll be floating face down by the end of the week. Look forward to photos and updates throughout.

Tourney Details:

When: Friday, October 16, 2009 • 8pm
Where: Hard Rock Hotel and Casino
Buy-in: $50+10
Winners: Prizes for table winners, knockout bonuses and finalists. Cash prizes for top finishers.
Charity: Proceeds will go to Ante Up for Africa
Including Charitable Contributions From: Carbon Poker, SB Nation, Sports Illustrated, Jose Cuervo, Crown Royal

That’s not all! In addition to bloggers that have played in our Invitational Blogger Tourneys, this event is featuring some of the most legit pros in the business.

The Pros:

PUNTE from WithLeather will be repping CarbonPoker and wearing our gear. Despite his poker play, he’s actually a good friend of the site. When he eventually gets knocked out, whoever does it will be awarded some CP swag!

We’ll also be awarding winners, and losers, some pretty exclusive Carbon stuff. If you’re in Vegas next week, be sure to stop by.

Carbon Player through to Day 2 of the PokerNews Cup in Australia

Posted By : Comb Over-Under October 2nd, 2009

imreHere is an update from one of our Australia correspondants. As you know, CarbonPoker was proud to send some online poker winners to the PokerNews Cup – Australia. Here’s what Shane in Melbourne has to report on the action from Day 1A:

With the Carbon team decimated by 2 late withdrawals there was only one runner on day 1A, impser.

After watching a fair chunk of his play today I have renamed impser “The stone faced Estonian”, he is a rock at the table giving nothing away in his demeanor. Hour after hour after hour he can’t be broken.

Through to the dinner break impser was just under the average stack, still well alive but not moving to far ahead.

With the blinds at 200/400 impser limps in from middle position only to have a know blind thief raise it up to 4k. Without blinking impser plonks down a stack of his biggest chips, roughly 20k. The original raiser went into the tank thinking long and hard before folding and showing pocket 8’s. The stoney faced impser didn’t show his hand, never giving away more information than he has to.

After hitting a low of 13k impser had a late rush in the last session of play and has survived day one and with 65k in chips he is just under the average of 69k with 49 players remaining in flight 1A.

So with a perfect 100% record from day 1A expectations will be high when flight 1B kicks off tomorrow!

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on all of impser’s action throughout the PokerNews Cup. GL, man.

Final Table is On for the World Series of Poker Europe

Posted By : Comb Over-Under October 1st, 2009

wsopeUPDATE: Since time of writing, Negreanu has been powering through the event, and is now 2nd in chips.

The Final Table of the World Series of Poker Europe is set. There are some recognizable faces and dominant players.

The £10,000 buy-in event has been gaining steam and prestige over the last few years, and notable pros making the final table does wonders for the event’s credibility.

The Players:

Jason Mercier 3,198,000 Chips
James Akenhead 1,398,000 Chips
Praz Bansi 1,160,000 Chips
Barry Shulman 1,090,000 Chips
Markus Ristola 784,000 Chips
Antoine Saout 701,000 Chips
Matt Hawrilenko 674,000 Chips
Chris Bjorin 518,000 Chips
Daniel Negreanu 438,000 Chips

Saout is on an absolute tear this year. He is essentially in 2 final tables at once – the biggest final tables in poker.

The father/son poker prowess is strong in the Shulman family. With Barry (father) in the WSOPE final and Jeff (son) in the WSOP November Nine.

You really can’t count out a guy like Negreanu, when he’s in an event like this.

Updates to come soon.

Here is the payout structure:

£ 801,603
£ 495,589
£ 360,887
£ 267,267
£ 200,367
£ 150,267
£ 114,228
£ 87,074
£66,533

Durrrr Off the List for 2009 Hall of Fame

Posted By : Comb Over-Under September 18th, 2009

durrrrEarlier today, we looked at the potential inductees into the 2009 class of the Poker Hall of Fame. Here’s a poker notable that is not on that list.

Tom Dwan didn’t make the cut for the 2009 Poker Hall of Fame inductions.

Apparently durrr was in the 10-man preliminary list, but has been omitted from the voting selection pool. After some more consideration, I think this is a little odd. Singling out durrrr is strange, because he probably wouldn’t have gotten the 75% of votes needed anyways because he hasn’t stood the test of time portion of the Hall’s criteria.

Equally interesting is the fact that he’s on the list to begin with. It really speaks to poker’s accessibility. If you can be in the conversation of Hall of Fame after some intense time in the spotlight (coming out of almost nowhere), it’s far from inconceivable for anyone to step up to that kind of level.

Truth be told, I like watching Dwan check-raise with 3-5 off suit into a $135,000 pot as much as the next guy, but does that equate Hall of Fame this early in his career? Well, as those involved have spoken, no.

Will Dwan eventually get into the Hall of Fame? Probably, yes. How’s that for a bold statement?

Eva Longoria to Host Charity Poker Tourney

Posted By : CarbonPoker September 11th, 2009

eva-longoriaEva Longoria, and her French-basketball-playing-husband, are hosting a poker tournament tomorrow night.

For those of you in the San Antonio area, you’re in luck. For those of you looking to the left, you’re also in luck.

The charity, called Eva’s Heroes, is a great cause. All the money raised from this event goes to kids and young adults that face developmental challenges. Get out there, Texans.

In addition to poker, participants can play blackjack and roulette. Phil Hellmuth will be the MC as competitors will be playing for a seat in next year’s WSOP.

Other celebs attending will be Sara Evens, some more San Antonio Spurs, and Kyle Howard.

So there you have it. Meet NBA players, see Longoria (the babe, not the baseball player) and try to win a seat into the 2010 WSOP.
