I got sent an interesting article authored by Daniel ‘kid Poker’ Negreanu the other day.
Titled Top players have advantage in deep-stack games, the article argued that many players fail to take into consideration the difference in preflop play in deepstack trounaments compared to small ball poker.

Small ball poker he defines as characterized by low preflop raises and restrained betting on the flop, which is a large portion of the action that is played on Carbon. Arguing that deep stack cash games should invoke a different preflop strategy such as increasing both the size of preflop raises and the size of bets on the flop. Its a good read and i recommend it to every player on this site. Check it out here

Another article I had the chance to read was on Pokernews about Poker and Pop Culture. The first in a series of columns that will look at the ever-changing position poker has occupied in American popular culture, the article details the origins of highstakes poker back to the infamous game between pro Johnny Moss and banking tycoon Nick Dandalos at Binions Horseshoe in 1951.

Binions was the first casino to raise the stakes of many games. When other houses were offering a max limit of $50 for craps, Binions set it at $500. The game articualtley positioned near the casino entrance drew hundreds of spectators and its argued to have an impact lasting several decades. Not really that astounding when some of the pots were reaching half a million dollars.
