March Madness

Posted By : CarbonPoker February 26th, 2009

March Madness is back again though unfortunately unlike Die Hard its not with a vengeance only more free cash!

As you play real money poker, you earn Comp Points which have a variety of uses, and we’re now adding even more value to Comp Points to help you win free cash as you play. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, we’ve gone Irish and added pots of gold for every player to win!

In your player admin section, a customized rainbow will track your Comp Point earnings throughout March, and pay out a pot of gold with each increment achieved. Each color on the rainbow will have a Comp Point goal, and as you work towards that level, the colours on the rainbow will fill up. Every time you fill up one of the colors, the corresponding pot of gold will light up, and you are a winner! The more Points you earn, the more you will win.

You can receive up to $2,000 free cash in total during March Madness by winning all pots of gold on the rainbow. The payouts increase as you earn more, so go on a roll to reach the top prize of $1000 free cash!

Comp Points are automatically earned as you play real money games, so you can simply continue to play your favorite ring games or tournaments and work towards free cash at the same time! Look out for the rainbow Comp Point counter in your player admin, and create your own free cash goal for March!

Poker Tunes & Glasses pt. 2

Posted By : CarbonPoker December 18th, 2008

Yesterday I talked about how many people dumb down their senses and their perceptions at the table focusing particularly on why a lot of players choose to wear sunglasses. The other side of the dumbing down the senses tirade is about the way in which many players like to have tunes cranking in there ears while playing poker.

Now similar to the sunglasses thing Ive tried this out too, mainly because I was bored and didn’t see myself doing much more in the tournament other than gradually blinding to the felt over the next several hours. So out come the tunes, something to keep me interested and motivated – a bit of Radiohead, Jimmy Eat World & Refused. However after 15 minutes and a few rounds, I cant hear a thing at the table and my focus is quickly shifting from the table to auditory explosions occurring in my ears. What I couldn’t get my head around was how a pro who was at the table was not just listening, but actually watching TV shows on his iPod.

What I couldn’t understand is is how on average two people were plugged in at every table. Maybe its just a part our continuing drive to be plugged in constantly. We need the whole experience enhanced. Soundtracks in our ears, and our lives played out in high definition 1080.
So call me pixelated but, I feel that my game is not enhanced by being plugged in and focused through accessorized media. What are your thoughts on the subject?

Poker Tunes & Glasses pt. 1

Posted By : CarbonPoker December 17th, 2008

A walk around any casino’s poker room and its easy to tell the amount of people who are plugged into ipods, mp3 players and other digital devices. It started out with a handful of people wearing sunglasses, but now with the assistance of technology, it seems like everyone who sits at a poker table is dumbing down their senses.

This seems quite contradictory, when considering that poker is largely a game of information and disinformation. Its no wonder a certain James Bond, was so skilled at the game – as a master of the world intelligence game he is well equipped with all the skills necessary to defeat the slick jokers ( in his case criminal masterminds) at the poker table. So the reason I’m scratching my head is that why dull the senses when a higher sense of perception would give you an obvious advantage.

The sunglasses – I heard once and strongly reiterate; there are only two types of people who wear sunglasses inside or at night; rock stars and tryhards. Though I figure that the poker player falls in an obscure grey area between the two. Though that’s all besides the point. So is it that you lack in self control and cant help but give away what your holding through your eyes? In my experience, any time Ive tried the glasses thing its made me play worse and I end up removing them, also its never fazed me when picking tells against an opponent. If their eyes are covered, its the other things that give them away. The question I’m going to leave you with here, how do shades improve your game?

Sit n Go Leaderboard – The Streaker Multiplier

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 4th, 2008

So since the release of the Sit’n’Go Leaderboard promotion only days ago, there seems to be a bit of confusion about how exactly the streaker multiplier works. But nonetheless I am here to once again to save the day and dispel the evil confusion.

Basically the winning streak will multiply your total leaderboard points. The second point to remember here is that any winning streak lasts for the duration of the month. Lets look at an example. Lets say Ive won 2 consecutive tournaments, thus my winning streak is on 2. I have played a number of tournaments and my leaderboard points are sitting on 100. Therefore my total score equates to – 100 x 2 = 200. Even if i lose the next 5 games, my winning streak is still on 2.
The other factor that influences the streak multiplier is whether you win six or ten seat Sit’n’Go’s. As six seaters have a multiplier of 1 and ten seaters have a multiplier of 1.5. So back to the example, now in the above example my multiplier is 2, which means I won two 6 seat tournaments. However if I had won two 10 seat tournaments then my multiplier would be 3 and my total score would be 300.
The interesting factor about streak bonuses is that it can drastically change the leaderboard. Think for instance if your on 2,000 points and you hit a streak bonus of 3. You are then catapulted up to 6,000 points in the space of only a few tournaments.

Forum Story Winners

Posted By : CarbonPoker October 30th, 2008

During the past week another contest exclusive to the forum was held. $25 on offer, and all you had to do was tell the most interesting poker story. Thankfully I have two winners. Thank you to all who posted stories. The winning entries…

From Chipraker420
Was playing the $300 GTD a few years back and was down to heads up. Both of us had pretty even stacks and blinds were big. Get dealt AK in the BB and other guy raised big so I called. Flop comes Q K 4. Other guy bets big, I raise, he moves all in so I call. He had me covered by a few thousand and flips over QQ. I swore and went to grab a something to smoke to ease my pain. I look down to grab it and when I look up I see that I’ve caught runner runner J 10. WOOHOO!!! I got so excited, I jumped outta my seat and ended up knocking over my smoking device and shattering it. This caused dirty water to spill onto and short out my keyboard as well as spill all over the carpet. DAMN IT!! Old lady was not happy.

Game winnings – $90

New Smoking utensil – $130
New Keyboard – $40
Carpet cleaner – $6

Net loss – $86

Finally being on the right end of a miracle suckout – Priceless

And the other winning story submitted. Thanks to FLOPZILLA

Forum Members Vs Staff Bounty Tournament

Posted By : CarbonPoker October 12th, 2008

Although small in size, this tournament held a lot of hype. Particularly for those who frequent the player forums. When we first announced that there would be a forum members only tournament, there was quite a bit of excitement. When we announced that a handful of Carbon Poker staff would be playing with juicy bounties on their heads, the excitement skyrocketed along with the post count of the appropriate threads.

While entry was restricted to those who are considered to be rather active, the numbers turned out for an intense game. With 6 staff bounties and 10 forum moderators with $10 each on their heads the bounty hunters were vicious. The tournament victor 1Canadiangirl, put forth the best effort taking out three staff and collecting $75 in bounties. Staffpaulie held up the Carbon Poker staff reputation picking up two bounties and placing third over all. Congratualtions to Skunkr as well who also collected two bounties: 1 staff and 1 mod.

Well done 1Canadiangirl on the win and the bounties – all up she pocketed just under $170 for a few hours of fun. If you want to get in on all of the special forum members only competitions, make sure you go sign up and post. There’s a happy little Carbon Poker community there that are most welcoming.

Scare Yourself and Climb The Leaderboard

Posted By : CarbonPoker October 5th, 2008

Its that time of month again where we bring you a new promotion and I get that odd feeling of deja vu that Ive said this all before. But like most cases of deja vu, its not quite the same. Similar…but not the same. Ok so I see you scratching your heads now. Well its similar in the fact that there’s free cash and other goodies for you. But its different in that its Halloween themed and there’s some different tasks you have to complete in order to win the free cash. Such as find the secret pumpkin…and by the way if anyone knows the location of that…please let me know. I still havent found it. However the best part of this months promo is that you can trick or treat! I know..its making me feel like a little kid playing dress ups and hounding strangers for candy too.
Though rather than reward you with candy, our trick or treat allows you to either win a better prize or get tricked into something worse!

The promotions don’t end there either, we also have a Multi Table Tournament Leaderboard promotion we are now holding monthly. This promotion allows you to rack up points just by playing tournaments and then pits the top 100 places against each other in a final tournament where the lucky winner will win an awesome live seat package. If you’ve already been playing tournaments this month go check your position on the leaderboard here. If not, what are you waiting for!

Make us laugh!

Posted By : CarbonPoker September 4th, 2008

Okay, so if any of you have seen the ‘Cool Stuff’ section of the Carbon website then you will know it is dismally pathetic. So in order to rectify this I am going to ask for your help. Over some time now I’ve been collecting poker jokes and quotes to help make this section worthy of its name, I would like for you to assist me by posting any poker jokes or quotes in reply to this post. Gambling jokes and quotes are also most welcome.

The person who posts the best joke or quote, will receive $25 into their player account. So make sure you post your player name along with your joke or quote.

Ill start off with one of my favorites…

Besides lovemaking and singing in the shower, there aren’t many human activities where there is a greater difference between a person’s self-delusional ability and actual ability than in poker.
