Short-handed play is a great way to get into more action at the poker table. While you may not see a lot of it at brick and mortar casinos, online poker rooms are full of this kind of action.
At CarbonPoker, with six or fewer player tables, short-handed play will give you some unique opportunities to win more money at the tables – what more could you want?
You will get to know your opponents faster, and they’ll get a better taste of you. It’s important to vary your play
Change Your Play
While playing at 10 player tables, it’s a lot easier to sit around and wait for a great hand, relentlessly folding. However, when at a 6-seater, it might be a good time to play more hands.
If you’re a little looser, you’ll see some more action. The blinds come faster with fewer people, and you’ll notice that it’s easy to piss them away waiting for premium cards to make a play.
Just Lie to People
Don’t be afraid to bluff a little more in short-handed action. As the table gets smaller, less-premium cards have a better chance at winning. If you’re representing a monster, you might be able to steal back some of those blinds you gave away before you loosened up.
If you’re able to catch some good hands early on, use this for your advantage and stay very aggressive – whether you’ve got the cards each time or not.
Focus on the Game
Since the action will be coming back around more often, you need to keep tabs on your hands. If you’re multi-tabling, play fewer tables. You’ll still see more hands than at 10 player tables. As you’re playing looser, so will your opponents – watch their actions.
With these tips in mind, you’ll find that short-handed tables can be more profitable. See more hands, get to know opponents better and vary your play.

Short handed poker is definetly more enjoyable and action packed. At a traditional 9 or 10 handed table on average i’m involved in about 15% of the hands dealt. In short handed that
% increases to apprx 35-40% plus suited
& unsuited connectors and small pairs warrant stronger consideration.
I have recently started playing 6 handed ring tables mainly .50 1 tables in order to gaine pionts faster.. My average bet is 3 dollars mabey to small considering mostbet 4 but they usually have 50+ stack. When i get aq or ak imake it 3 to go and attimes am rr 3-4 times more … should i be folding those hands??
