That’s a lot of jewelry for one man. Phil Ivey is renowned as one of the world’s top players, and he consistently proves that it’s not just hype.
Ivey took down his sixth bracelet in Event #8 at the 2009 World Series of Poker – No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw. The event was a $2,500 buy in and lead to a $96,361 win for Phil.
It wasn’t easy for Ivey as he took a hit early on in the action and had to play his way back into contention from a short stack.
In front of a packed rail, eager to see the man take down his sixth gold WSOP bracelet, Ivey battled it out against John Monnette. As the action got more heated, press, pros and fans crowded around and saw Ivey lay down 7-6-4-2 to beat Monnette’s 9-7-5-2.
This was Ivey’s first bracelet since 2005 – putting him in some exclusive company with poker’s greats. Other six-time winners include: T.J. Cloutier, Men Nguyen, Layne Flack and Jay Heimowitz. The WSOP is far from over, so watch for Ivey to possibly take down lucky number seven.
