$1000 WSOP Winners

Posted By : CarbonPoker May 20th, 2009

On May 9th we ran the satellite to the $1,000 WSOP Holdem Event. 29 players turned up to play and with two live seats on offer the action was sure to be rough and unapologetic. 3 and a half hours later and covered in poker sweat, the super sly sliekas turned out his third live seat win. The lucky punter has already been to the WSOP and also the Aussie Millions through CarbonPoker’s live seat program.

Congratualtions Sliekas, and well done. Also forum favorite Froliche1 must be given congratulations as he came in second, also picking up a seat to the WSOP. Thankfully the re-buy and add-on’s served him well. Congratulations Froliche1. You earned it.

Heads Up = Who’s The Best

Posted By : CarbonPoker March 9th, 2009

There’s not much this particular blogger likes more than a duel between the best. Apart from maybe a full fridge of beverages but lets not focus on that now. Anyhow I recently posted about NBC’s heads up poker championship and only the other day the series of matches that constitutes this event was played out in a secret poker lair hidden in a even more secretive underground bunker (aka a casino in Vegas.)

The big names were out in force and split equally over the four brackets of the competition. Spades, Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs all played out over the first day of the competition and some surprising outcomes were seen as the field thinned.

Vanessa Rousso a relative no name compared to those who she was up against provided the necessary surprise beating Brunson and Ivey in consecutive matches. She went further through to round 4 where she met Daniel Negreanu and beat him down also.

Incidentally Negreanu livened up the early stages of the tournament in his third round against Scotty Nguyen where he dressed in a curly black wig and gold jewelery in imitation of his opponent. He also put on an accent and littered his speech with the term “baby”. Luckily he not only pissed off his opponent but survived the grueling encounter.

However the outstanding performance of the tournament belongs to a certain Huck Seed. Mr Seed beat out strong comer Gus Hansen in the opening round and then proceeded to steam roll his way to the final. Where he met the other outstanding performer of the tournament Miss Rousso. The two made for an excellent final and finished the tournament in style with Seed coming out on top.

MTT WSOP Seat Winner!

Posted By : CarbonPoker March 9th, 2009

You like tournaments. You play alot of them. Multi-table ones – the bigger the better. You rack up points for the MTT leaderboard. Somehow you find yourself with a decent amount of points, and finish the month with a rush to push up into the top 100 on the leaderboard. You make it in at number 87.

So with unique starting chipstacks your not sitting to well for the grandfinal tournament considering there is over $12,500 in prizes on the line. Damn it would be good to win this and go to the WSOP. But in stark reality chances are looking bleak when there are 86 skilled poker players stacked above you. You register and start the tournament, noticing that out of the 12 people stacked lower than you only 4 show up. So your 5th from the bottom and half the stack of the chip leaders. Not good.

Though you play well, tight, taking chances when the opportunity presents them. You go on to make the half way mark, the final 20, the top 10 and final table. Its down to heads up and your still in and shortly later you pocket a $12,500 package to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

this is the story of robin1989 in the recent MTT leaderboard final. Congratulations and well done on an excellent effort.

Carbon Poker Back To The Main Table

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 23rd, 2009

In the dying moments of the Main Event, after 4 days brutal play and after we all thought the hopes and dreams of the Carbon Team had been dashed, we receive word of another player still playing.

Word trickles in that Ilikebiggirls a big Carbon Poker player is still going strong, with 1.2 million in chips. The young gun from Canada, is set for the final table in Seat 3 and has over the last 6 months racked up quite the poker CV.

He cashed three times at last year’s WSOP, winning some decent pocket change and cashed again in a major tournament in the Caribbean earlier last year. The final table is preparing to start as we speak and Ilikebiggirls brings 1.2 million in chips. In the mean time, lets take a look at his long journey there…

Aussie Mill’s Main Event Update

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 23rd, 2009

Straight from the floor – the biggest pot of the tournament so far, over 1.4 million in chips.

Player1 raises $100,000 preflop and is folded around the table to player2 who makes the call.

The flop comes Q38. #1 moves all in with the short stack, and player 2 stands and makes the call. Looking jubilantly triumphant already, he tables KK for the best hand with #1 flipping top pair – Queens and a 10 kicker.

Turn – 6
River – 9

The crowd applauds and cheers as the field narrows down to 30 odd players.

Main Event Marches On

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 22nd, 2009

The action at the Main Event has been heating up as we got to the money yesterday a few sessions before dinner break. A period of extremely tight play ensued as players tried to make the bubble. However once it burst a flurry of all ins in quick succession happened as players with short stacks made their moves now that they were guaranteed at least $40,000 in chump change.

A few big moves by some big names fare poorly as crowd favorite Patrick Antonius fell to a 3 way all in on a board of JJ8-3-5. Some big bets forced one chaser off but not the other as he moved in for 400k. A long time deliberating, Antonius eventually and honorably called time on himself and as the pit boss counted down the final moments he made the call and tabled KJ for trip Jacks. His opponent turned J5 for one better with a full house.

Krazy Kanuck’s Crazy Exit

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 22nd, 2009

KrazyKanuck (KrKanuckPic) : a charming fellow and a cheeky poker player, we were expecting a commendable performance from the old gent, and he didn’t disappoint until his exit. Making it through to day 2 alongside Vader, he started he day short stacked and while cheekily steeling pots, failed to vastly improve the chip situation.

Sitting at the table was Mr Brian Mcfadden, who’s known for hosting lame reality TV shows, singing ear aching pop songs and having a super hot girlfriend in the form of Australia’s finest: Delta Goodrem. Despite this worthy horde of achievements under his belt, he felt the need or more, and had his sights firmly set on a KrazyKanuck.

Similar to fellow Carbon Players, Krazy Kanucks chip stack was under the weather and less than half a dozen times the blind. Playing extremely tight and allowing the blinds to wash over him once more, the time until he moved all in was in short supply. Following the button and in a good late position pocket threes gave him the hand he was waiting for. All fold except for Mcfaden sitting on the opposite side of the table.

The flop comes and while straight draws are possible his still in the lead. The turn brings both sides of luck as his still ahead but Mcfadden has more straight draw outs too. The river falls as a crowd gathers an the straight draw hits! Unlucky for Kanuck, but I’m sure he’ll get his own back at the poker pro tables tonight.

The Hands That Lost #2: The Fall of The Dark Side

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 22nd, 2009

Just like the movie, the dark side never wins, despite always coming close. Vader46 had had an exceptional run, into day two after a brutal day one where he constantly tussled with the Unabomba: Phil Laak.

After lasting out the first session the second day, the poker jedi closed in. His stack was feeling the effects and although valiantly resisting, was beginning to look meek in comparison to some at his table.

After battling out the next two sessions, and stealing some reasonable pots to keep him going, a solid hand and a small stack gave only one option: all in. He opened his play articulately, with a a steady raise expecting to be reraised. His predictions were the envy of a fortune teller as two called his raise and then 1 reraised. The action back on Vader46, he didn’t hesitate before pushing all in with one caller to follow. The KQ suited he turned looked strong, but wasn’t enough to beat his opponents KJ when a Jack flopped shortly after. Knowing he did the best out of all the Carbon players wasn’t any consolation as he took to the cash games to quickly rack up a size able win of $1200. Nice effort Vader!
