Freddie Ellis won the marathon Seven Card Stud event that stretched out until 3am. As an East Coast-er, Ellis must have been fighting some drowsiness, but I’d imagine that the $373,744 payout made it all worthwhile.
This is Freddie Ellis’ first WSOP bracelet and he definitely earned it – beating out a talented field that included Daniel Negreanu and other high profiles players.
The final table started out with an odd-numbered 9 after Negreanu’s knockout (7 Card is usually 8 for a final table), but that was quickly remedied as Jeff Lisandro followed Dan’s lead.
The bracelet is a nice win for Ellis who rolls through the New York and Atlantic City Seven Card circuits. As on older player, he was starting to show the effects of back-to-back late nights.
The New Yorker took out Eric Drache in the final showdown with a flush against Drache’s mucked hand. Drache got $231,000 for his troubles.
