At the recent WSOP series one of the highlights was Scotty Nguyen Winning the coveted $50,000 HORSE tournament. I use the term highlight liberally, and in several ways and I use it in particular regard to its entertainment factor as it certainly was a low point in the series as far as poker is concerned.
What happened – over the course of the 13-hour final table Nyguyen, proceeded to get rather drunk and then assault several other players and staff of the event with verbal tirades. Particularly fond of dropping the f-bomb, he continued to openly discuss hands that were in play, showed the audience cards in his hand while the game was still going and is accused of attempting to collude.
All in all he broke 7 WSOP rules, won the event and left a load of controversy in his wake. Behavior like this from one of the most established pros in the game is practically inexcusable. On the plus side, I see that it serves as a reminder to watch ones conduct while playing poker in any format, be it online or a live game. No one likes playing against someone with such behavior, and all you achieve with such actions is to embarrass yourself.
