Carbon Poker Team Crumbles, Places Faith in the Dark Side.

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 20th, 2009

Although Flight 3 looked to be going swell for the Carbon Team, the luck soon ran out. Pitted in a tough field of 288 entrants, which was 100 odd more than started in flight 1, and amongst a host of pros, it was stacked up against them.

The pros struck soon after dinner break, and while Vader46 was busy dueling with Unabomber Laak, his pro partner Jennifer Tily, busted dezilk out in a tough match up. Details on this hand will be posted soon.

Vader46’s campaign for Carbon, looking every bit the dark side his moniker suggets, clad in black Carbon hoodie didnt go unnoticed at the feature table with a pro or two commenting on the youngsters play. He currently sits a little short stacked, but far from out as we prepare to enter day 2.

Sliekas despite being busted earlier in the day was milling around the ropes with fellow Carbon Hosts, Cory and Liam lending their support to the players still battling on. Nice team spirit guys!

Stay tuned for more updates shortly.

Vader46 Vs The Unabomber

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 20th, 2009

Vader46 has been for the last two sessions, sitting at the featured table with a number of well known players and that infamous Unabomber aka, Phil Laak. Here how a few hands have played out…

Vader raises preflop at 100/200 blinds. Others fold and Laak makes the call. The flop comes a sea of diamonds with J being the highest. Laak leads the action with a sizeable bet, which Vader calls, a 6 of spades falls on the turn and the betting pattern continues. Finally the river is dealt and Laak in light of Vaders calls, checks as Vader follows with a big bet. Laak folds and Vader46 takes down a big pot.

Straight from the floor phoned to the bloggers desk: Vader vs Laak round #2.

Both hold AK, some raise, then re raises before the flop leave only the two in the hand with a juicy pot to be won, the flop comes and is inconsequential apart from the possible flush draw. Vader who holds the K of clubs is one card away from the second best hand. The turn and river come but nothing changes, either way its a huge pot and the crowd is watching with baited breath. The pot is split and Vader cracks a smile as Laak rambles on abut mind control techniques.

Slieka’s runs into trouble.

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 20th, 2009

Its a tough crowd here in Melbourne as revered Carbon Player Sliekas found out. The triple live seat winner had his fishhooks cracked to see him leave disappointing early on in flight 3 of the main event.

Peering down at JJ Slieka’s raised preflop under the gun to be called by the button and small blind. The flop came down with what appeared to be well in favor of his cause – a rainbow 789. Over pair with a gutshot straight draw. Another bet and a call as the turn comes and changes nothing on the board, all in by Sliekas after to carry out a check call manoeuvre, a hesitation and then Slieka’s all in is called and the opponent turns a set of 8’s. Unlucky and Slieka’s is sent packing to the bar, where Liam waits with cold beer.

Flight 3 – Opening Moves

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 19th, 2009

The first session of play has just ended with a 15 minute break from the felt. Crown Casinos Poker room was abuzz with the action of the day, but the poker for the Carbon Team was slow coming. After an early won pot by Vader46 who’s pocket 7’s came through against a low board an a calling stations Ace high, the action really slacked. Although Vader46 looked to be firing it up with 3 AK hands in relatively quick succession, all failed to hit and saw him dwindle somewhat.

In other news, the floor was sparkling as stars were spotted left right and again on the left. Lee Nelson, Mark Voss, Australian cricketing legend Shane Warne, sporting a new sleeve of tattoos, and vocalist Brian McFaden who’s better known for the women he pulls, were all seen cavorting around the poker room. Even a blinged up Scotty Nguyen managed to get roped into a photo with StaffLiam.

More Updates and Photos are coming soon!

Aussie Millions Kicks Off

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 19th, 2009

The Carbon Poker representative team has been kicking it in Melbourne for two days now settling in and enjoying the sights. Yesterday we escorted the players on a trip to the Melbourne Zoo where our international group (US, Spain, Netherlands, Lithuania, UK) were astounded by the boring native Australian animals who just sat in the dirt and where a gorilla took a liking to c001handpuke trying to win him over with a provocative mating display. We finished the day with the official player dinner feeling it was a good start to have the players well fed and rested for today’s flight 3 where they all kick start their Main Event Campaign. Best of luck to the team and keep checking here for loads of updates.

The Future Of Poker

Posted By : CarbonPoker January 11th, 2009

Its safe to say that this world moves fast. Technology advances in leaps and bounds, and you have to keep up or get left behind. Several years ago the online poker boom came, and since then has managed to stick around and burrow into its own little niche segment of society. So what changes will this see? Here’s a few predictions…

Poker on the hand held device. Iphones, blackberry’s and devices that allow us to be forever plugged into the system (and big brother), are also very capable platforms for us to extend our favorite game to. While poker phone games and similar apps have been around for quite some time, now with 3g and all the other networks we have access to constantly, it is likely you will see your favorite online poker rooms make the cross over to incorporate new gaming platforms into their mix and allow players to log on and play from their pocket computer.

As the tech wave washes over, stats and poker *accounting* will be sure to be swept up in the wake. Currently at live tournaments the world over, their is always a detailed display of information floating around, expect this to continue, to the point where chip counts become automated at each table.

Poker regulation and tax – its a big one at the moment with multiple actions going on in the US. The latest arguments come with the collapse of the economy, in that as governments look for more sin taxes to augment the coffers and other sin taxes, gambling and poker is a prime candidate…

What are your thoughts for the future of poker? Id love to hear them. $5 in your player account for the best response. Dont forget to post using your player name.
