The World Of Poker

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 20th, 2008

The world of poker has been relatively quiet recently with the completion of the long awaited final table of the WSOP. So what has been happening?

Well the Bad Beat jackpot has been booming and has reached the $650,000 mark. What this means is that some time very soon some lucky Carbon Poker players are going to be excessively rich. Frankly I’m kinda jealous.

In other news, the APT hits Sydney next week and several Carbon Poker team members will be down there doing their best to make the money. Good luck to those who are heading to the land down under!

Finally, don’t forget the Aussie Millions Live Seat final is coming up next week. It will be a great experience for those who manage to find their way to Melbourne. Players can satellite in or buy in direct to the Live Seat final.

On a parting note – the new merch store items; the hat and the beanie have been huge hits with the bulk of stock practically flying out the comp point store. Get in quick before they all go!

$10,000 Monthly SnG Leaderboard!

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 18th, 2008

By now everyone has well settled into the new Sit’n'Go leaderboard promo and the competition has been heating up. Not only has the main leaderboard seen some stiff competition, it might even be over shadowed by the close race for the top spot on the streaker leaderboard.

When the Carbon marketing team were sitting around discussing the Sit’n'Go leaderboard before its introduction, we were expecting maybe a few people would reach streak bonuses of 5. Maybe even a 6 if they were exceptionally lucky. But now a quick glance at the leaderboard shows that we were a little off in our predictions. Several players have managed to break past the 7 streak bonus mark with 2 players reaching 7.5. This means that these players have won 5X 10 seated Sit’n'Gos in a row. Quite a respectable feat. Well done guys!

If there is any confusion still lingering about how the leaderboard points work and how the streak bonus affects your points, we have created a few tools to assist you. Simply go visit the Sit’n'Go leaderboard promo page on the Carbon website and use the calculators to work out how many points you should have!

$9M WSOP VICTORY!

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 11th, 2008

If you had 9 million dollars what would you do? Well Im sure Peter Eastgate has had that question on his mind alot these last few months and now he actually has it. Picking up a cool $9 million dollar first place prize in the World Series Of Poker Main Event, Mr Eastgate has become the youngest ever to win the Main Event – breaking Hellmuths record that has stood for 20 years. He also joins the elite list of poker players and now ranks 5th on the list of money won in poker tournaments.

Previous to the WSOP Main Event, Eastgate, while a formidable online player was unknown to the rest of the poker world. That however has all changed since he busted Russian Ivan Demidov in heads up play to take the most prestigious poker event in the world.
Eastgate practically dominated the heads up period of the match with smart play and some dominating hands. The final hand was called all in by Demidov who sat nicely on two pair. Though like the rest of that game, Eastgate had him out classed and out gunned as he called and then laid down a 5 high straight. Id say congratulations, but I think he might be sick of hearing it!

November Nine Cont.

Ylon Schwartz

A renowned gamer from New York, Schwartz is a ranked chess master and also a big back gammon player. Having played since the early 90’s he went pro in 2000 after a few prominent finishes. Like other pros who have played chess and back gammon Schwartz claims that the skills cross over and have improved his poker game. Schwartz goes into the final table placed an equal 5th, though is still
about half stacked against chip leader
Dennis Phillips
Darus Suharto
This is the 39 year olds second run into the WSOP Main Event and also the second time he has made the money. Having cashed in the 06 Main Event to the tune of $26,389 after winning an online satellite. Having taken the same path again this year via an online satellite, his journey however has taken him much farther; 873,671 places further to be precise. However the journey isn’t over yet for this accountant, despite being a self professed amateur who describes poker as his foremost hobby. He supposedly sticks to his accountant stereo type and plays a calculated tight game.
Craig Marquis
Another one of the young guns at the final table, Marquis has very little experience in the live arena though has plenty of experience online. He started out at smaller limits but quickly progressed to the high stakes. He has a few small cashes under his belt though and is not to be taken lightly at the final table. If Marquis wins he will become the youngest player ever to win the WSOP beating Hellumth’s long standing record. If he does it will be an incredible achievement with just over a year and a half of poker experience to his name.

Left to right: Schwartz, Suharto, Marquis

High Stakes At Carbon Poker

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 4th, 2008

I had the pleasure of watching one of the high stakes head sup tables today and it didn’t disappoint. With just under $15,000 on the table the match was rather volatile. Barely any hands made it too the flop but when they did they were big and expensive. One in particular played out like this…

Blinds $25/$50, Players are PLAYER1 and PLAYER2.
PLAYER1 Posted Small Blind $25.00
PLAYER2 Posted Big Blind $50.00
Dealing Cards
PLAYER1 Raised to $100.00
PLAYER2 Raised to $400.00
PLAYER1 Raised to $1,600.00
PLAYER2 All In
PLAYER1 All In
Dealing Flop (3d,Kd,Ks)
Dealing Turn (Ac)
Dealing River (5c)
PLAYER2 Shows (Tc,Th)
PLAYER1 Shows (Ah,Kh)
$3,402.00 Returned to PLAYER2 from Pot 2
PLAYER1 Wins $10,899.00 from Pot 1 with : Full House, Kings over Aces
Whaoo..
Anyhow, they kept playing on and I noticed PLAYER2 had picked up a fair bit of his cash back off PLAYER1.

Sit n Go Leaderboard – The Streaker Multiplier

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 4th, 2008

So since the release of the Sit’n’Go Leaderboard promotion only days ago, there seems to be a bit of confusion about how exactly the streaker multiplier works. But nonetheless I am here to once again to save the day and dispel the evil confusion.

Basically the winning streak will multiply your total leaderboard points. The second point to remember here is that any winning streak lasts for the duration of the month. Lets look at an example. Lets say Ive won 2 consecutive tournaments, thus my winning streak is on 2. I have played a number of tournaments and my leaderboard points are sitting on 100. Therefore my total score equates to – 100 x 2 = 200. Even if i lose the next 5 games, my winning streak is still on 2.
The other factor that influences the streak multiplier is whether you win six or ten seat Sit’n’Go’s. As six seaters have a multiplier of 1 and ten seaters have a multiplier of 1.5. So back to the example, now in the above example my multiplier is 2, which means I won two 6 seat tournaments. However if I had won two 10 seat tournaments then my multiplier would be 3 and my total score would be 300.
The interesting factor about streak bonuses is that it can drastically change the leaderboard. Think for instance if your on 2,000 points and you hit a streak bonus of 3. You are then catapulted up to 6,000 points in the space of only a few tournaments.
Comprende?
