Bad Beat Odds

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 13th, 2008

Just a quick little post on the ever increasing Bad Beat jackpot. Carbon Poker’s quad 7’s or better requirements is one of the lowest in the industry and is currently its sitting just over the $250,000 mark. As the jackpot climbs, the listed Bad Beat tables see more and more action, which means more and more chance of a payout. A bit of trivia – 624 in 2,598,960 or 1 in every 4165 hands are the odds of pulling four of a kind in a hand of Holdem. However for a Bad Beat you must have quad 7’s or better. So the odds thin out a little, to 1:10829. Now for your hand to be badly beaten, someone else must have quad 8’s or better, so the chances are whittled down a tad more along with my ability to calculate such figures without the aid of a supercomputer or ridiculous amounts of caffeine.

However some interesting poker stats and odds that I did manage to find out while looking into Bad Beats -
  • If you have 3 of a kind, you have a 4% chance of turning that set into four of a kind.
  • You also have a 10% chance of turning that set into a full house, given that the turn and river are still to fall.
  • Two pair has a 8% chance of turning into a full house with only the river to come.
  • When chasing a flush, if your holding four of a suit you have a 19% chance of completing your hand.
Best of luck at losing bad.

World Of Poker

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 11th, 2008

With the Olympics marching on in Beijing, its natural to have ones eyes open to other countries, their cultures, and how they play their poker and sports. For the large majority of the world, the two are distinctly separate – poker is regarded with the slight disdain of a gambling game, where as sport is typically upstanding and competitive.

However in Russia poker is a sport. The fact that the game has been declared a sport by the government opens doors for many counties to follow suit. While there is little doubt that they will do the exact same in declaring poker a sport. It does give precedent for them to change and alleviate their stance on what is usually regarded as gambling and often illegal.

As a result poker in Russia is booming, with many poker only clubs opening up in Moscow. The stakes aren’t exactly shy either, with one top Russian pro observing a pot limit stud game (rather uncommon in the rest of the world) with an ante of $2000.
With Russia being one of the world’s most influential countries, it will be interesting to see the repercussions of this through out the gambling world.

Version 4.4

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 4th, 2008

So as the world of poker is a little dull right now (really there is not much happening that’s worth knowing), I’m going to give you a little sneak peak at the upcoming software client – Version 4.4. Version 4.4 is the result of our designers being threatened with Chuck Norris unless they churned out the best poker gaming experience possible. Thankfully for them, they have delivered a product that would make old mate Chuck proud to fly kick them to the heads. So what masterful client have they created to be so deserving of the grace of Mr Norris’s boot imprint?

Version 4.4

  • Timebank – ever been pressed for time in a tournament when all your chips arte on the line? This feature allows you precious time, when you need it most. Under the gun of those hard decisions.
  • Euchre – A really cool side game, the first where you play with other players against other players, rather than the house. (image above)
  • Betting buttons – there are a whole bunch of new betting button options, to help you with your betting strategies.

All in all the new software client is undoubtedly one of the best out there (yes, I’ve played most of them), the above mentioned features are just a few of the new things that the software includes. It will be released in a few weeks, and will herald a whole world of new poker action at CarbonPoker.

Panda Madness!

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 4th, 2008

Recently some of our design team have had a few equipment upgrades – a whole bunch of new flat screen monitors (and some cardboard boxes for the roofing). Now, have you ever wondered what happens when you combine the dodgy old takeaway we all usually call lunch, and the effects of radiation from running 3 monitors? Well other than the sexy monitor tan, you also get brain spores growing, and brain spores lead to…..

Panda Emoticons!

No, I’m not Joking, the following words when typed in the player chat box will display some cool new panda emoticons.

• angry • pray • hello • ouch • whosyourdaddy
• laugh • applaud • Shocked • dance • rockon
