Poker Entertainment

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 28th, 2008

One of the best televised poker events is NBC’s Poker After Dark. I like this show for several reasons – first off its on all the time. Its good knowing that there is some decent poker action on the idiot box regularly. Secondly its got a star studded lineup. Its ranks are full of the worlds best players. Huck Seed, Johnny Chan, Hellmuth, Brunson, Jennifer Harman, Erik Seidel, and my favorite, Daniel Negreanu all feature on the show. Thirdly, its entertaining! Theres not much worse than watching boring TV, however Poker After Dark never lets me down. Be it Phil Hellmuth blowing up or Daniel Negreanu with his amazing reads; its always entertaining.

Best of all you can check out highlights and episodes on the website!

While I’m on the topic of poker entertainment, ever since i saw Rounders Ive been a huge fan of poker movies. This one below, I’m dying to check out. Know of any other awesome poker movies? post them in the replies!

How To Play and Win at Carbon #2

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 27th, 2008

Before I go diving headfirst into some intense ring game action there are several things I should consider. First – my bankroll, its close to $100 and if I read the article on bankroll management. Then I would know that I should only be playing stakes my bankroll can support. This means I can play limit and pot limit games up to .25/.50 and no limit games with maximum .5/.10. Now this seems rather small limits, but that way I will be able to ride out any intermediate losses without losing too much cash. I select a .10/.25 limit table and start play.

So here I am one week later after playing a fair amount of poker. I picked up a bit of cash and lost some too. I played some freerolls and even managed to place in the money and pick up $15. Now on the whole my bankroll is pretty much even to when I started; around the $115 dollar mark. So how do I make more money with my break even poker skill?

Enter a reload bonus. If I manage to break even by playing real money games over a long period, I am still able to capitalize on the many reload bonuses on offer. Most bonuses are cleared into your account by earning comp points, and as I’m playing, even if I don’t earn money I am able to clear a reload bonus into my account. So I deposit again using a reload bonus that gives me 100% on my deposit. I can also pick up an extra 15% again, by going with one of the other payment methods.

So now my player balance is up to $230, I’ve only spent $200 of my own cash in depositing, and I’ve made $30 without even winning at the tables. Furthermore If I only manage to break even for the following weeks of play, I will still increase my player balance as the reload bonus is cleared into my account. Even if I lose, the reload bonus might just offset my losses!

How To Play and Win at Carbon

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 25th, 2008

Ok So I’ve decided to write you a bit of a how to guide. To make and win money at online poker is not really that difficult. However there are many things that can help you out a lot more than milking every pair of pocket bullets you pick up. This will most likely be spread out over several posts. So keep can eye on this space.

First off, there are loads of different bonuses on offer at any time here at Carbon. Make use of these! As these are constantly changing every month, for this I shall use our basic 100% to $500 initial bonus. However many of our other bonuses are better offers than this and I recommend using one of them.

Okay, so to start off – the deposit. In addition to 100%, I am able to pick up an extra instant 15% by using PIC Club. So I go ahead, set up a PIC Club account and deposit $100. After the setup period required by PIC Club, my player account has been credited with $115. I’m already up $15 and I haven’t even hit the tables yet! If you’re wondering about the 100% bonus – it has play through requirements and gets credited to me as I play.

Time to hit the tables. So first off I go check the tournament schedule and proceed to register for the daily $500 freeroll for new players and another $50 new player freeroll. These freerolls are excellent ways to practice for buy-in tournaments and I may even pick up some cash for free. So now I’m ready for some ring game action…continued tomorrow.

Drama at the WSOP

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 25th, 2008

At the recent WSOP series one of the highlights was Scotty Nguyen Winning the coveted $50,000 HORSE tournament. I use the term highlight liberally, and in several ways and I use it in particular regard to its entertainment factor as it certainly was a low point in the series as far as poker is concerned.

What happened – over the course of the 13-hour final table Nyguyen, proceeded to get rather drunk and then assault several other players and staff of the event with verbal tirades. Particularly fond of dropping the f-bomb, he continued to openly discuss hands that were in play, showed the audience cards in his hand while the game was still going and is accused of attempting to collude.

All in all he broke 7 WSOP rules, won the event and left a load of controversy in his wake. Behavior like this from one of the most established pros in the game is practically inexcusable. On the plus side, I see that it serves as a reminder to watch ones conduct while playing poker in any format, be it online or a live game. No one likes playing against someone with such behavior, and all you achieve with such actions is to embarrass yourself.

Check the video below to watch some of the antics…

The Player Details Box

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 21st, 2008

Hi, Hello all. So far you all seem to be enjoying the new software client quite alot, judging by the feedback we have received. Though some of you are having a few small issues with some of the new features such as the player details box. Not to worry, as I’m going to show you exactly how to get the most out of this feature.

The player details box has several functions. It allows you to keep track of friends and tags, view further details about a game, manage games you are playing and which games you are awaiting to join.

Friends and Tags – The player details box allows you to keep track of both your friends and tags. Friends are obviously those fellow players who are your friends. They must accept your offer of friendship in order for you to see them when they are online. Once this is done, you can view which games they are playing and join to play against them. Tags on the other hand are players who you have tagged for a specific reason. Perhaps because they are an easy player and you know you can win money off them, or alternatively they may be very good and you wish to avoid playing in a table with them. The difference between friends is that you can not see them when they are online. If you come across them in game, they will show up as a tagged player but you are not able to track them like you are friends. In addition, they will not know you have tagged them. Furthermore, you are also able to tag your friends. By clicking on the edit contacts button you are able to edit both your friends and tags, as well as access more detailed options regarding your contacts.

Tagging players is done in game, and all you have to do is simple click their player box. Which brings up the below screen. Viola! Done!

Brush up your Poker Skill

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 17th, 2008

I recently had the chance to read some excerpts from a new poker book by Arnold Snyder. Snyder who is a reputable professional gambler and author has just released: The Poker Tournament Formula 2. The book goes into depth of poker tournament strategy; particularly for those longer tournaments with bigger buy ins. Snyder presents several compelling theories on tournament Holdem strategy, and formulates persuasive strategies and arguments for effective tournament play. I’d recommend picking this up if you, A: consider yourself a specialist tournament player, or B: having trouble with your tournament play and wanting to improve.

In the mean time, you can appease your lack of poker skill by brushing up on some basic poker strategies – we have some basic poker articles full of tips and tactics to help you become a master check them out here…

In the poker game of life, women are the rake…

Posted By : CarbonPoker August 14th, 2008

Limit poker is a science, but no-limit is an art. In limit you are shooting at a target. In no-limit, the target comes alive and shoots back at you. — Crandall Addington, Texas oil millionaire

Besides lovemaking and singing in the shower, there aren’t many human activities where there is a greater difference between a person’s self-delusional ability and actual ability than in poker. — Steve Badget

The title is a quote from the movie Rounders.
