Fresh faces and our top APPT player makes a comeback!

Posted By : CarbonPoker February 18th, 2008

The latest $20,000 Guaranteed final table had a familiar face – our friend from Brazil, BatataSC, who represented CarbonPoker at the APPT Sydney late in 2007. He played very well in Australia, so seeing him at one of our biggest final tables is certainly no surprise!

BatataSC finished in fourth place for a very respectable payday of $1400. His AQ didn’t improve against the pocket sevens of mathias1, who called the all in bet pre-flop. Amazingly, two hands later mathias1 picked up pocket sevens again, and again called an all in bet from Metrell who held KJ. This time however, Metrell did improve with a King on the turn, and she doubled up to over 160,000 chips.

Our third place finisher, KnoxGodoy, held KQ and flopped top pair. Pushing all in, he was called by none other than mathias1, who had the pocket Aces! No help on the turn or river, and KnoxGodoy was eliminated.

On the very next hand, the tournament was all over. mathias1 picked up yet another pocket pair (this time being Deuces), and Metrell held Q5 of diamonds. Metrell raised, but matias1 pushed all in and as the short stack, Metrell called.

A Deuce came on the flop, and the only hope for Metrell was picking up a runner-runner flush or set. Neither came, and matias1 became a Sunday 20k Champion, worth $5400 for first place! Metrell walks away a winner also, and as a new player she has already seen success on some of our high stakes cash games. Look out for more from these players in future.

Valentine’s Day Champion!

Posted By : CarbonPoker February 14th, 2008

The main event of our February Heart Attack has just concluded, after 848 players sat down to play for a prize pool of $5000 free cash!

The clear front runner for the majority of the last several tables was fuchscs. Holding a significant chip lead, it seemed like his tournament to win.

fuchscs naturally came into the final table as chipleader, and held this spot for a very long time. In a few instances when play become five-handed, he suffered a few bad hands, but managed to pull back up to almost one million chips with four players remaining. At this point, he held over half of the chips in play.

He also busted the fourth place finisher loserlori with pocket fives, after his opponent went all in pre-flop with ATo. The board didn’t improve for loserlori and she was eliminated. fuchscs rocketed to over one million in chips.

redwithredaces and Manhanas held approximately 109,000 and 126,000 chips respectively against fuchscs holding 1,411,000 after play became three-handed. The chip count between the two short stacks fluctuated wildly, but Manhanas continued to hold on, doubling up several times on as little as one big blind to stay alive.

Throughout the whole final table Manhanas maintained a positive vibe, and showed amazing sportsmanship on every hand. Offering good luck and congratulations to all players, he certainly deserves the Best and Fairest award for the tournament!

redwithredaces was forced to put in his last 20,436 chips when the big blind was at 30,000. Both players called, but fuchscs folded after Manhanas bet the flop. The cards were revealed, and unfortunately for redwithredaces, his pocket Deuces weren’t good after Manhanas flopped a pair of tens holding AT. Heads-up play began!

On the final hand, both players went all in pre-flop. The race was on – Manhanas held Ad 4c, and fuchscs held Kc 9c. The flop came down 9s Kh Qs, and it was all but over. A Queen on the turn counterfeited the pair of nines, but the river bricked and Manhanas finished in second place for $600. fuchscs held on to the top the whole way, and came away a champion for $1,000 free cash!

Don’t worry though, Heart Attack isn’t over yet. There’s still two more weeks of daily freerolls, so keep earning those Comp Points and you can take a chance at $500 free cash every day!

We’re ready and able to lavish our players with iPod Nanos from the recent Christmas Scavenger Hunt. After a month of intense poker action, 56 players managed to score one, so we were on the phone to Apple and grabbed a super special mega-order!

A giant box of has arrived, and we are a little enamored with them ourselves. Marty here was quick to celebrate the arrival of these desired Apple devices, but duty calls and he had to let go of his dream.

Caribbean Stud – 100% Jackpot winner!

Posted By : CarbonPoker February 10th, 2008

It’s been a long time coming, but our ultimate Caribbean Stud jackpot has finally been won! The prize has always been sitting at approximately $50,000 and has seen a number of players take off a few chunks every so often – normally 10% for a straight flush. However, the jackpot always built right back up, and the inevitable has happened.

Our winner is tazdog2, who enjoys the full range of CarbonPoker’s games, from Texas Hold’em to Roulette. This time, his experience across the software paid off in spades! Picking up a Royal Flush in the hand, Ten to Ace of Hearts, the jackpot payout came to a total of $51,354.18. Considering the bet was only $3, with a progressive jackpot bet of 20 cents, it’s not a bad profit at all.

Congratulations tazdog2, today you are a champion!

Another Super Bowl victory to celebrate

Posted By : CarbonPoker February 4th, 2008

Our SuperBowl tournament is done and dusted, with a champion crowned. The event featured four hours of play, 289 entrants, 100 entrants and $521 added to the prize pool, which came in at just over $4400. The table even boasted a custom Giants/Patriots football theme!

The chip lead fluctuated rapidly over the course of the tournament, with notable Aussie Millions entrant lennie10 sitting near the top of the ladder for some time. He hit a few snags, but eventually picked up 8th place for a cash of $132.33.

The heads-up play began with sliekas and festoon sitting pretty, but the battle only lasted for eight hands.

When the final cards were dealt, sliekas picked up 8s 2h, a huge underdog to festoon’s Qh 9h. However, sliekas limped in and the board came down 2d 8c 6h, giving him two pair. festoon bet out and was called, and then pushed all in on an open-ended straight draw when the turn was 7c. sliekas called, and the river blanked with the 4c, giving him the victory and a first-place prize of $1190.98!

Stick around for more action during February for our Heart Attack and Bad Beat freerolls!

The Super Bowl skill continues

Posted By : CarbonPoker February 4th, 2008

Right now we are running an one-off Super Bowl event, a $10 buy-in tournament with a value of $521 added to the prize pool. In yesterday’s big game, there was a total of 521 passing yards, so we were quick to add that amount as a bonus!

The blinds are currently at 150/300, and a total of 289 players sat down to the action. Rebuys are allowed, so the prize pool continues to grow, with the first place winner set to receive over $1100. There’s still a long way to go until we find the Super Bowl champion, but we will certainly let you know when the final cards hit the board and the cash is taken down!

You can rail all the action in your poker software. Simply look for the Superbowl XLII tournament under Tournaments >> Scheduled >> Special. Good luck to our players!
