Giving thanks with turkey!

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 29th, 2007

With Turkey Day last year being such a success, we decided to expand on that this year and made the whole month of November a celebration of Thanksgiving.

It kicked off with half price SitnGo’s for the first week of the month for everyone to warm up and get their game in order. Then with the start of week 2 came the jackpot and the traditional leaderboard. As everyone jostled for positions throughout the month the jackpot steadily grew. As it stands at just over $32,250!

With just days left to claim their spots in the top 100 there are plenty of players on or near the bubble that could sneak into the Qualifying final SitnGo’s. Crowning the top of the leaderboard are a lot of the usual suspects. Well out in front is Mada1970, who is backing up his second place finish in last years Turkey Day Leaderboard. Also in the mix are DONK4LIFE who had a great run during Floptober, enzolito who won his way to the WPT Barcelona event, thefrenchies who earlier in the year won the Sunday $20,000 Guaranteed, and FrederickHendrick who took down the NL Short Handed Championship in our Summer Champs.

If your near the bottom of the leaderboard top 100, now is the time to secure your place in the qualifying final round. Make sure you’re well ahead of those just outside the top 100, I can see a few of them sneaking into the top 100 before the final places are set.

All of the action of both the qualifying finals and the grand final take place this Saturday:
Thanksgiving Jackpot Qualifier SnG’s - Saturday 1 December @ 12:00 Thanksgiving Grand Final Jackpot SnG - Saturday 1 December @ 15:00

Good luck to all those that qualify!

The Aussie Millions Grand Final has crowned a champion!

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 25th, 2007

After a lengthy period of Satellites, buy-ins and all-out poker action, 115 players sat down on the 24th of November to compete in the Aussie Millions Grand Final tournament, with the prize for the winner being a $15,000 live tournament package to the Aussie Millions Championship in Melbourne, Australia.

Three players remained after four hours of play, and the tournament was to be over within 30 minutes. Despite clearly having the skills to make it all the way, both unclefestor and puppyfoot eventually fell to Bartyuk’s uncanny ability of picking up pocket pairs.

First to go was unclefestor, who pushed all in pre-flop with AQ, very strong hole cards in any situation. However, Bartyuk was holding pocket Kings the whole time and making the call couldn’t have been easier. The flop brought two Tens, giving Bartyuk an incredibly strong hand and a desperate situation for his opponent. The turn and river failed to bring any strong cards for unclefestor, and he was eliminated in third place.

Less than ten minutes later, Bartyuk faced another easy call with pocket Jacks when puppyfoot went all in pre-flop holding K3d. A huge flop came down, with two Aces on the board. puppyfoot needed a King or runner-runner flush draw to take the win, but luckily for Bartyuk neither showed up and he emerged as the Aussie Millions Grand Final Champion, outplaying 114 entrants to take the top prize!

For winning the Aussie Millions Grand Final, Bartyuk has picked up the $15,000 tournament package, which means we’ll be flying him all the way from the United Kingdom to participate in the Crown Casino Aussie Millions tournament in Melbourne. CarbonPoker representatives will be accompanying our winner to Australia, where we will all take in the sights and sounds of the biggest poker tournament in the Southern Hemisphere.

We fell just short of picking up enough entrants to send two players to the Aussie Millions, but the Satellites are still running for our many large buy-in events, so the more players involved, the more chances of scoring a live tournament entry! Stay tuned over the coming months for all our live tournament coverage and Satellite opportunities.

Heads Up with the Queen isn’t a cakewalk!

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 21st, 2007

In the Carbon Poker offices, its pretty safe to say that our Queen of Hearts isn’t the best poker player. The best way to describe Tina’s usual play is ‘luck box’.

That being said in the second of the Heads Up with the Queen bonus matches Tina showed a new side to her game. Her opponent in this round K1n9K0n9 almost predicted his own fate. As he folded an early hand he said to Tina “I bet you had a big pair”, in classic Tina fashion she replied “look at my pic”. That was a pretty clear tell that she had a big pair.

Unfortunately for K1n9K0n9 that wasn’t the last of her big pairs. Despite getting Tina on the rails she somehow managed to fight back (K1n9K0n9 might be able to help with the details…. I’m guessing there was some luck involved) She finished the game off with the biggest pair, yes even bigger than her pair, pocket rockets.

So congratulations this round go to Tina, and commiserations to K1n9K0n9. It was a well played game, he just couldn’t quite get the result he was looking for.

Its now up to mcfc1984 to restore balance to the force and take Tina down in the last of the Heads Up with the Queen matches.

A tasty little pot…

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 19th, 2007

One of our biggest cash game pots were taken down on the weekend when s01diergirl and foxyuk got tangled playing $25/$50 NL.

In the small blind with Js-9h was s01diergirl and in the big blind with Kd-3d was foxyuk.

First to act was s01diergirl who raised it up to $100, foxyuk made the call and we went to the flop.

The flop came down 8d-Td-Ks setting up both s01diergirl’s up and down straight draw and foxyuk’s flush draw.

Looking for either a free card or maybe even just to see where he was at foxyuk checked it over to s01diergirl who bet out $300, foxy raised over the top o $480 and s01diergirl made the call.

The turn was the only card needed, it was the best card for foxyuk and the worst card for s01diergirl. The queen of diamonds filled s01diergirl’s straight, but at the same time also made foxyuk’s flush.

Clearly foxyuk felt he was in good shape with his straight draw and he bet out $1,400. He wasn’t the only one who liked their hand as s01diergirl came over the top of foxyuk pushing all in. It was another $3,189.50 for foxyuk to call, and he did just that making a total pot of $11,038.

The river didn’t even matter the hand was already won, there was no beating foxyuk’s king high flush from there, making a tidy win for a few minutes play.

If the higher limit cash games are you thing be sure to keep your eye on our cash games, there has been a nice little spike in this action at Carbon Poker and more and more of these games seem to be opening up.

A Sunday Payday

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 19th, 2007

Carbon Poker puts on a massive $20,000 guaranteed tournament every Sunday. With a $50 buy-in and $5 entry fee, players can take a shot at winning thousands of dollars in a few hours. That’s exactly what EgonOlsen did, who picked up an extremely solid $6000 for a $55 investment.

What makes yesterday’s Sunday guaranteed so unique is the number of registered players. For a $20k prize pool, 190 players were registered. This results in a huge starting EV of over $100 for a $55 entry! Carbon Poker continues to proudly run these Sunday tournaments and provide a huge opportunity for players to take a very good chance at scoring a massive bonus to the bankroll.

For winning $6000, EgonOlsen barely had to lift a finger. Picking up AT, he simply called when ChadRyker raised all in pre-flop holding K7. Perhaps a bluff, perhaps not – in any case, EgonOlsen was dominating the table. No cards fell on the board to help either player, and EgonOlsen secured the win by holding on to his Ace high as the board drew to a pair of Deuces. ChadRyker doesn’t need to feel bad, as he walked away with $4000 in cash. In fact, the top twenty place-getters finished in the money, which accounts for over 10% of the registered players.

The $20,000 guaranteed tournaments are held every Sunday ay 17:00 Carbon Time, and there really isn’t anywhere in the world one can expect to get in on such a massive prize pool for only $50.

Don’t back out of the outback

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 18th, 2007

Ah yes, the Aussie Millions. Throw another shrimp on the barbie and practice your boomerang throwing, because it’s that time of year once more. The world poker phenomenon is no exception in Australia, thanks to hearty local support and the success of 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem who calls Australia his home.

Perhaps its a little too early to speculate, but the prize pool is going to be huge, and I expect Aussie Millions to become a crucial event for many of the world’s greatest players. The 2007 event was won by Gus Hansen who defeated youngster Jimmy Fricke, a previously unknown online player. The winnings have been consistently increasing every year, and 2008 should be no different.

Australia is a nation with a small population and massive popularity. I’ve played at the Crown Casino before, and it truly is an epic establishment beyond anything seen elsewhere around the country. The local support is immeasurable, with the Australians giving it all they have for the love of the game. We’ll be accompanying a number of our elite players Down Under, and to take your own shot at becoming a Carbon Poker legend, the satellites are running daily.

For an indication of the local action, here’s a hand featuring the last remaining final table Australian player at the 2007 event, Julius Colman.

Holding A6o, Colman moved all in pre-flop against Andrew Black’s pocket Queens. Colman flopped a set of Aces, which is about as good as anyone can really expect at that point. The third flop card, however, was a Queen which gave Black the nut full house and eliminated Colman from the tournament. This was a high-stakes hand with good chances for both players, and represents a powerful situation like many seen throughout the week at the Aussie Millions.

There’s something else I just realised. Playing poker in Melbourne is the closest you will probably ever get to playing high-stakes in Antarctica. I would certainly watch a final table being played at the summit of, coincidentally enough, Mount Melbourne in Antarctica. Emperor Penguin Millions? It could happen.

cocaine82 has the cash but the Queen gets dinner

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 15th, 2007

Thanks to a side bet during the first of our Heads Up with the Queens tournaments both players came out winners.

Thanks to some nice heads up play cocaine82 took down the $500, some of which will no doubt help fund the dinner that the winner of the tourney agreed to pay for.

Tina has already met cocaine82 at last years Aussie Millions when he won his way to the Main Event with us. Now he will be working overtime to win his way there again so he can come good with this dinner.

Im sure if he gets to take Tina to dinner he wont exactly be sad!

Congrats to cocaine82 for the win, and nice work for Tina for at least getting a free dinner from the tournament!

cocaine82 takes the win!

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 15th, 2007

While I was trying to find out what happened to the custom table, Tina lost her lead and cocaine82 became the bully.

With a growing chip stack he methodically pressured the Queen on her blinds till she was finally forced all in with the worst of it.

There were a couple of heckles of luck box around the office when Tina doubled up to stay alive with some less than strong hands, but that luck ran out and cocaine82 was the deserved winner.

All was not lost though with a table agreement of the winner buying dinner at this years Aussie Millions. Now Tina just needs to hope that cocaine82 wins his way to Mebourne!

Tina takes the early lead!

Posted By : CarbonPoker November 15th, 2007

Im not sure if cocaine82 is just taking it easy on her but Tina has taken the early lead thanks to a nice pot with A-Q…

No surprises that there was a queen in the winning hand…
